Rabbi Yosef Baruch Fromer

Rabbi Yosef is a devout believer in the connection between Jewish traditions and values to the deep "Tikun" that Israel needs.
Coming from Greek origins, he believes that celebrating our Jewish diversity is the key for building a healthier peaceful Israel.
He is committed to social justice, activism and peace.
He was a rabbinical intern in our community for two years and started serving as our Rabbi in January, 2021.

Rabbi Yosef Baruch Fromer was born in Haifa to a family of Greek origin and was educated at the Reali High School. He spent his mandatory service in the IDF as a tank commander and a platoon sergeant and continued to serve in the reserves for about 20 years, including in Operation Defensive Shield (2002) and the Second Lebanon War (2006). He was awarded the title of "Company Outstanding NCO" (2009) and "Outstanding Performance" from the Chief Armored Officer (2013).

He is a graduate of the University of Haifa's Honors and Computer Science Program, and holds masters’ degrees in Philosophy (Haifa), Business Administration (The Technion) and Jewish Studies (The Schechter Institute of Jewish Studies).

He previously worked as a programmer, development team leader and founding CEO of a small software company. As a volunteer, Rabbi Yosef was one of the leaders of the 2011 tent protests in northern Israel, known for its unique Arab & Jewish collaborations. He assisted in building a "Shochatim" (ritual slaughterers) workers union, and in 2013 helped restart the public effort to clean the Haifa Bay area from polluting industries.
